Brought in a vintage Longines from the 1960s that hadn't moved in years. The restoration took about six weeks, which felt about right given the parts sourcing involved. The movement runs beautifully now and the dial wasn't touched beyond cleaning — exactly what I asked for.

Had the movement clean done on my daily Seiko automatic. The difference in accuracy afterwards was notable — it had been losing about two minutes a day before. Process was straightforward: drop-off, a call mid-way confirming a small part replacement, collection two weeks later with a written summary.

I went in unsure whether my grandmother's watch was worth servicing — it's not a famous brand but it has sentimental value. The technician spent time looking at it properly and gave me an honest assessment rather than just quoting me the full restoration price. That kind of straightforwardness is not always easy to find.

My work carries me through humid conditions and I wanted a wellness check on my mechanical dress watch before a three-week trip. The report they gave me was unexpectedly thorough — including a note about the crown gasket that I wouldn't have thought to ask about. Water resistance checked out fine. Good peace of mind.

Second time using Thong Mechanism — this time for a movement clean on a different watch. Both experiences have been consistent: clear pricing, honest communication, and a working watch returned on time. I'd have given five stars except for a small delay mid-service, though they did call to let me know ahead of the original date.

A friend recommended Thong Mechanism for a tricky antique Omega pocket conversion I'd bought in pieces. The assessment was thorough and they were upfront that some parts would need sourcing — which they managed. The result is a functioning watch with a full written account of exactly what was done to it. Exactly what I needed.

A Few Watches in Depth
1950s Swiss Pocket Watch — Movement Rebuild
The Challenge
The movement had not been serviced in decades. Several small components were worn beyond normal service — including a main wheel tooth and one keyless part that had been incorrectly replaced at some earlier point using the wrong size.
What We Did
Full disassembly, cleaning, and assessment of each component individually. Correct replacement parts sourced from a specialist supplier in Germany over approximately four weeks. Movement rebuilt with period-appropriate lubricants and regulated on a timing machine.
Outcome
Movement running within ±10 seconds per day — well within expectation for a mechanism of this age. Owner returned for a follow-up check six months later; no adjustment needed. Total service time: eight weeks.
"I was prepared to have this watch displayed statically — I didn't expect it to actually work again. The fact that it keeps reasonable time is a bonus I hadn't counted on." — Khun Pravit
1980s Japanese Automatic — Timekeeping Restored
The Challenge
A daily-worn watch had begun losing two minutes per day — inconvenient enough to affect routine use. The owner had delayed addressing it as the watch had sentimental value and they were cautious about who they trusted with it.
What We Did
Movement removed and disassembled. Inspected under magnification; no visible damage, but dried lubricant was causing drag on the escapement. Full clean, re-lubrication with calibre-matched compounds, and regulation post-assembly. Water resistance verified.
Outcome
Returned within the stated two-week period running within ±15 seconds per day. Owner confirmed the same result at check-in fourteen months later with no further drift. Service cost: ฿9,200.
"The watch is now more accurate than it ever was when I first bought it. Two minutes a day might not sound like much but it adds up. I should have dealt with it sooner." — Wanchai
Pre-Trip Assessment — Peace of Mind on a Tool Watch
The Challenge
Client was travelling to humid coastal regions and wanted a confidence check on a mechanical diver worn daily. No specific problem was identified — this was purely precautionary given the conditions ahead.
What We Did
Full visual inspection including crown, case back gasket, and crystal condition. Timekeeping behaviour noted over 48 hours. Exterior cleaned. A note was flagged about crown gasket wear — still within specification but approaching the point where replacement would be worth planning.
Outcome
Watch cleared for the trip. Client returned three months later for a movement service, scheduling the crown gasket replacement at the same time. The watch was subsequently used throughout a three-week diving trip without incident. Service cost: ฿4,400.
"The crown gasket note was something I wouldn't have caught myself. I appreciate the level of detail in the written report — I kept it." — Niran
